Virtual Abundance Expo Uses Mobile to Create Buzz and Increase Participation

July 27, 2009 by markumobile

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Norwalk, CT  July 17, 2009… MobiReply, the world’s first text message autoresponder is powering the buzz behind the upcoming Virtual Abundance Expo co-hosted by Scott Martineau and Alex Mandossian. The event features 12 thought leaders such as, Deepak Chopra, Marci Shimoff, Jack Canfield and others over four days beginning July 27th.

“Adding mobile to our marketing plan for this event was a great addition to the overall effort,” says Scott Martineau.  “Text messaging is an easy way to reach our core audience and attract new members.”

The effort included a “be-the-first-to-know” strategy, where attendees signed up to be the first in line when the event was announced. “We think for the first attempt at a strategy like this it was a positive outcome,” says Martineau. “People were talking about it and the aim was to get “buzz” about the event.”

“The text message campaign contained traditional means such as the typical text in sign up option (Text VAE to 79274) and also a web sign up box,” says Kathryn Rose, President of markUmobile, the company behind MobiReply. “MobiReply’s exclusive form generator allowed Martineau to capture the email as well as the mobile number of the attendees.”

With MobiReply, when the participant enters their email address, it is sent to the business email client (like Aweber or Constant Contact) and the mobile number is sent to the MobiReply platform. “This allows them to build their email list with their current email provider and build their text message list simultaneously without having two separate sign up boxes,” says Rose.

The other strategy, was a “reply with email” function that is an exclusive feature of MobiReply. “We set it up so when the participant texts in the keyword, they are instructed to reply to the text with their email address to receive a ‘free gift’ and the MobiReply platform either collects the email addresses for download, or forwards them automatically to the client’s email service,” explains Rose.  “This way, again, the client can build their text list and email list easily and seamlessly.”

The second portion of the text message campaign for the Virtual Abundance Expo is event reminders. “When someone signs up for the event they are invited to give their mobile number to be reminded about the calls so they don’t miss any of this exciting event,” says Rose. If the person cannot participate live, they are invited as part of the text message, to go to the event’s website and upgrade to VIP status. The event can be heard and seen live for only $1 but if the participant wants the extensive meeting notes and bonus sessions, they can upgrade to the VIP level which is $97.00.

“Internet marketers are taking note of the power of mobile marketing,” says Kim Dushinski, author of The Mobile Marketing Handbook, “The hosts and authors featured in this remarkable event are definitely on the cutting edge. MobiReply was designed specifically for Internet and email marketers and has the features and functionality for this audience.”

MobiReply is touted as the world’s first text message autoresponder for its evergreen functionality. “The product is truly set and forget so you can put your marketing campaign on auto-pilot and easily and seamlessly integrate your mobile strategy with your email and social media campaigns,” says Rose. “MobiReply’s mobile sign up box even works with Facebook Mark-up Language (FBML) for easy integration with your Facebook Fan or profile page.”

10 Tips For Writing Effective Text Messages

June 4, 2009 by markumobile

In any good text messaging campaign, how you communicate your call to action, is very important. You only have 150-160 characters, so use them wisely. With email marketing it is important to have a good subject line so people will open your email. In text messaging, there is a near 100% open rate so it is less critical to have people “open” your text. It is more critical that they read it and act on it.

1. Avoid text “speak.” Unless you are targeting a really young audience, keep the text abbreviations to a minimum. Same goes for misspellings and bad grammar.

2. Have a clearly defined goal. Do you want them to get a coupon? Join your vip club? Sign up for your teleseminar? Buy your book? If you know what you want them to do, clearly communicate it.

3. Don’t try to sell with every text. People hate to be sold. Give out free information within the paid services you offer. Internet marketers do this really well, they start with a free report, then ask for paid content, etc.

4. Understand text marketing is NOT microblogging. Keep your tweets on Twitter, use text marketing to position yourself and sell your products.

5. Practice makes perfect. Social networking sites like Twitter, can be a good source of examples of effective “short message” communication. Since Twitter is only 140 characters, how do people get you to call, click, etc.?

6. Remember that not all phones are smart. According the ‘Mobile Market View’ study published by The Kelsey Group, no less than 18.9% of mobile consumers in the United States are now strutting the streets sporting smartphones, with 49.2% set to grab themselves a piece of smartphone action within the next two years. So if you only use messages with URL’s that you expect them to click through on their mobile phone, you may be missing 50% of your audience.

7. If you are using URLs try and resist the temptation to do a complicated or “tiny” URL. The reason is, as I mentioned in #6 if your target client does not have a smartphone, they will go back to their computer and type it in. If it is long, complicated or too difficult for them to type in, you could lose that client.

8. Use split testing. Most text vendors allow you to set up or segment groups within their respective platforms, use this to test your messages.

9. Use the “forward” call to action. Remind people to forward this to a friend, it is pretty easy on most mobile phones to forward a text. Other calls to action: call now (make sure you include the number), reply y/n.

10. Make sure you at all times adhere to the Mobile Marketing Best Practices, giving people the opportunity to opt out, even if it eats up precious characters.

Integrating Email and Internet Marketing with Mobile Marketing

June 1, 2009 by markumobile

We all know how important it is to build a good marketing list.  When email first arrived people couldn’t wait to open it. Remember that “You’ve Got Mail” sound or the email “chime” letting you know you had a new message? Eager with anticipation, you’d rush to your computer and open your inbox…only to see another message about “Viagra.”

That’s when it began; dummy email addresses—downright fake ones– I admit I used minniemouse@aol on many occasions, just so I could get the information.  Then came spam filters and junk email folders.  All designed to impede your ability to deliver content to your clients and generate new ones.

What is a marketer to do you ask?  How can I reach my core clients through the haze of a cluttered inbox?  The answer now is mobile.  Mobile text messages have a 100% open rate!

We all know that 80% of our business comes from 20% of our customer base.  Mobile text marketing can help you to identify that 20%.  If a client opts-in to receiving your text alerts, they are probably in your core audience.  Others who opt in are new leads that are looking to become part of the top 20%.  Mobile can integrate with your email marketing efforts, targeting that top 20% and increasing your ROI.

When someone gives you their cell phone number to sign up for their updates, etc. they are asking for you to communicate with them.   Text messages are usually reserved for quick, personal communication.  If your clients choose to have you communicate with them via text, they are inviting you into their “inner circle.”  Not to mention that since many people don’t have an unlimited text plan, they are actually willing to pay for your information. That is how important it is for them to be on your list.

The operative word, however, is “choose.”  Text message marketing is 100% opt-in.  Spammers beware: if you send spam text messages you not only violate the Mobile Marketing Association’s best practices, but you could be subjected to lawsuits and massive fines.  The US congress is entertaining legislation as of this writing to prevent and punish cell phone spam.

There are many text vendors already established and, with the explosion of mobile text marketing in the U.S., many more to follow.  For email and internet marketers it is important that you are specific in your needs when interviewing potential vendors.  The vendor should have the ability to seamlessly integrate into your existing email marketing campaign, eliminating the need for you to re-opt-in clients.  Web page sign up boxes and advanced scheduling features, much like your email autoresponder, would be the best bet.  Each vendor has its own niche where they excel.  Another important thing to ask is their policy on opt-in.  Most vendors, because of the huge expense, place many clients on one short code.  If the vendor allows uploads of cell phone numbers via lists, they may be encouraging spammers.  If too many complaints are lodged with the carriers, they can shut down the entire code and your ability to communicate with your clients.
